Roto Square

Fabricators and end users now have an extra choice of handle style in the Roto range. Roto Square looks radically different to our other current handles, with a design language based on angles and straight edges rather than curves.

We talked to Subana Akhmedova, Marketing & Communications Officer for Western Europe, to find out more about it.

Hi Subana, we are used to Roto handles having curves and feeling comfortable in the hand. Why is this new design so angular?

“This was the challenge for our design team, to make a different, distinctive-looking handle and not lose the comfort. This new handle has inspiration from an aesthetic that was more common a few decades ago. You can also see a Cubist influence. It gives the impression of squareness, but every edge has been softened enough to make it feel nice in the hand. It is a handle that grabs the eye and looks good in a showroom, and you can also be happy to use it every day in the home”

Who is this really designed for: fabricators or end users?

“Both can benefit, for sure. For an end user, this provides a handle that looks different from the standard models on the market, has a distinctive character and will fit well into minimalist interiors. For the fabricator, this is a product that is easy to specify and simple to stock. The Roto Square range is designed to work across windows and balcony doors, and also the sliding systems Patio Inowa, Alversa and Patio Lift. This means you can retain the same design language across a whole building project with nothing standing out as different”.

Security is always a big priority for customers. What does Roto Square offer here?

“The Secustik function is available. This is where the handle has a blocking mechanism to protect against interference from outside, but is always available to operate without having to use a key lock. This version makes a reassuring click to let the user know it is properly engaged when you turn the handle down to lock. We also have locking versions with keys, plus a push-button version for those who want a quick, hassle-free opening. The same design of handle can therefore be used in family homes and also in buildings where access needs to be more carefully managed”.

For the fabricator, is there anything that makes their life easier?

“We have a function called VarioFit, which provides a big practical benefit. The spindle length can be automatically adapted to suit the profile of the window. The advantage is that you don’t need to stock all the different spindle lengths. This saves on complexity for ordering and stockholding. It also means you won’t have the scenario where you have every size of spindle in stock except the one you want for a specific window”.

The design language is clearly a feature of this handle. How is the finish?

“The team who worked on the handle have been very focused on aesthetics. There are five standard finishes: Traffic white, Jet black matt, Natural silver, Titanium and Bronze. That covers the classic neutral options and also the darker, more contemporary tones that are becoming more popular today. So we think the standard range will cover a lot of customer requirements. But we can take design freedom even further if needed. As with our other handles, special surface finishes are available on request”.

If you had to sum up why Roto Square is interesting, what would you say?

“It proves you don’t have to choose between security, practicality and design. For the fabricator, you get a handle that’s flexible to install and easy to stock. The end users get something in their home that is not just functional but has a feeling of design flair. It does all this across the full range of opening windows and sliding units, which is what makes it a really useful addition rather than just a new shape of handle.”
