Double-leaf front doors are becoming more popular, with increasing demand from homeowners and architects. As well as providing an impressive visual impact, such doors can bring practical benefits too: they allow much wider access when required, for example when moving large items such as furniture in or out of the home.
If glazed, double-leaf doors also let more light into the home, improving the interior aesthetics and potentially reducing the need for artificial lighting too.
Those are the reasons to choose them, but of course homeowners will not want to compromise on burglary resistance and they will also want it to be simple and easy to operate the second leaf.
Our new Lever-operated Espagnolette makes it easy for you to provide your customers with a double-leaf door that covers all these requirements and includes some useful new technical features.
Modular, flexible and fabricator friendly
The unit is part of a modular system that allows extension pieces to be fitted. This takes the maximum rebate height up to 3,000 mm, so ceiling height doors can be made with this espagnolette. To help manufacturers process the component quickly and accurately, visible cropping marks are provided.
Easy to use
Operation is simple: once the primary door leaf is open, the secondary door is released by operating the lever, which is conveniently mounted just below the position of the main door’s deadbolt. “This is very easy to use”, says Subana Akhmedova of Roto Western Europe’s marketing department. “No having to bend down, and certainly no having to reach to the floor and top of the door to release shootbolts”.
Smart protection function
The espagnolette also features a mishandling protection function. This prevents mis-sequencing by making it impossible for the deadbolt of the main door to extend into its receiver on the secondary door unless the secondary door is locked correctly and the shootbolts engaged.
“This means that if the main door is locked, you know the entire unit is closed and locked correctly”, says Subana. “The espagnolette is very intuitive and easy to operate anyway, but this provides an extra reassurance”.
Burglar-resistant and durable
The Lever-operated Espagnolette is proven to be capable of providing burglary resistance as part of a full door set tested to Resistance Class 2 (RC2) under EN 1627 standards. It has also been tested to 25,000 operational cycles for a lifetime of trouble-free use.
As with all Roto door hardware, this espagnolette is coated with RotoSil Nano coating to provide high levels of corrosion resistance, even on moving parts. This makes it ideal for homes exposed to the toughest weather conditions, including coastal locations.
Standardised and cross-compatible
The locking point receivers on the espagnolette are positioned in accordance with locking pattern V02/03, making it compatible with all current door locks in the Roto range, including cylinder and lever-operated versions, plus electromechanical units from the Roto Safe E | Eneo CC range.
Ask for a demonstration
“Double-leaf doors definitely have high end appeal”, says Subana. “People who buy such doors will expect a premium product in every aspect. With Roto door locks, hinges and this Lever-operated Espagnolette, door manufacturers can make sure that is what they are offering. I would recommend getting a demonstration of the espagnolette from your Roto representative and then making double-leaf doors part of your product range”.
