A long-term Roto fabricator partner in Scotland has just achieved highly successful weather and security testing on a PVC window using Roto NX Designo hardware.

Merlin Network, based in Dalgety Bay, Fife, provides windows and doors to installers across Scotland. The company is an exclusive user of Kömmerling profiles and the window sent for test was made using Kömmerling Gold O70 profile and fitted with Roto NX Designo concealed hardware to our security specification.

The test sample, of sash size 1110 x 1150 mm, passed the requirements of both BS 6375-1 and PAS 24 conducted by ERC Testing. In the weather performance element, the unit resisted a pressure of 600 Pa, achieving classifications of Class 9A watertightness and Class 4 air permeability.

“Everyone involved has been very impressed”, says Alan Couper, Roto Key Account Manager for Scotland. “With a tilt and turn unit being inward-opening, there is a strong reliance on the hardware to keep the sash compressed on all four sides in order to resist high wind loadings. You can never be 100% sure of passing a test, but it really helps to have a quality fabricator and premium components used throughout the window. I would like to thank my colleague Dave Smith, our UK Technical Manager, for his help and advice in preparing for this test”.

“We have an excellent relationship with Merlin Network and I know that installers across Scotland trust them to provide quality windows that meet all industry standards. We are proud that Roto hardware plays a role in this”.

Merlin Network supplies a wide range of windows and doors, including sliding doors, plus conservatory products, along with technical support to installers across Scotland. The company does not compete with its installer customers.

Stuart Cooper, General Manager of Merlin Network, said, “It is not easy to achieve such good test results on large sized windows. The fact we have done so well is a testament to our fabrication teams. It also shows the value of working with premium brands in terms of window materials and hardware. Alan, Dave and the team at Roto have been helpful as ever. We choose to work with Roto because of this support and the fact that Roto hardware products meet all requirements and help our windows provide a long, trouble-free service life”.
