You can now offer a fully functional Tilt&Turn window that meets accessibility requirements for customers who need to be able to operate the handle while seated in a wheelchair.

The Roto NX Comfort specification includes an extended window handle that is fitted to the bottom horizontal plane of the sash. The ergonomic shape and extended length help to make it easier to operate. Being set so low down, the handle can be reached by anyone in a sitting position.

Roto engineers designed a special “comfort scissor stay” and compatible espagnolette to work in conjunction with the handle. The stay makes it much easier to operate the window, including retracting it back from the open tilt position in order to close and lock it.

The challenge with an accessible window is making it capable of true one-handed operation”, explains Subana Akhmedova of Roto Western Europe’s marketing department. “The comfort scissor stay solves this, making windows accessible to almost anyone, regardless of age.

A Comfort Window does not always have to be sold as a solution for people with disabilities”, she continues. “There are other uses too. For example, if a window is higher up or harder to reach, for example on the other side of a sink or work surface, this is another scenario where a bottom-mounted handle giving full operating control is a great advantage”.

The Comfort Window specification is now available within the RotoCon Orders application, so it is easy to specify such a window and receive the correct parts to make it. Such windows always feature a full Tilt&Turn function.

You can make a Roto Comfort Window using any profile with a 16mm hardware groove, and on any window material or profile for which a Roto NX specification exists. This includes PVC, timber and aluminium.

Roto offers a ten-year performance warranty for all components and a Comfort Window specification is classified in accordance with DIN EN 13126-8. So far, sashes up to 50 kg overall loading have been tested successfully.
